As a child I had the great fortune of having a mother who was devoted to staying home with my brothers and I. I can recall charging through the front door after a long day at school and getting a wiff of her freshly baked banana bread. Just talking about it makes my mouth water. I can still remember slapping on a rather thick coat of butter and enjoying every last bite.
Years ago when I started taking my health more seriously and paying attention to every ingredient that went into my body I realized there had to be a way that I could have a healthy version of my mother’s banana bread without compromising the taste.
Well here it is folks. The BEST healthy banana bread recipe out there. It took me a long time to perfect but couldn’t be happier with this recipe I’m sharing with you today.
Let’s talk about the ingredients
I use Complete Truth Protein instead of flour because it is gluten free. It also gives the muffins a really moist texture and helps them rise just like it would with regular flour. You may have noticed that there is no sugar in the recipe. That’s right, you don’t need it. Maple syrup or honey will give the same sweet taste without having to put toxic substances like refined sugar into your body.
The last ingredient I will talk about is chocolate chips. You don’t need them for this recipe but my mom always put chocolate chips in her banana bread, so in keeping with tradition I wanted to do the same. After reading the ingredients on a conventional bag of chocolate chips I knew there was no way I was going to consume them. Luckily, now you can find gmo free chocolate chips with only a couple ingredients.

I just made these wonderful muffins this morning – Delicious! I used maple syrup instead of honey, but I’m sure honey would be equally good. Thanks for the great recipe, Dorothy!
