Tuna seems to be one of those foods that people either love or hate. If you’re a hater there’s a few things we want you to consider before you disregard it completely and ask for a substitution. If you already love tuna these tips may help you up your tuna game and increase your love for it even more.

Tuna is super high in protein which makes it a great addition to your meal plan for weight loss. It’s also full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which help support your immune system and overall health.

If you Want Something you’ve Never Had, You Must Be Willing to Do Something you’ve Never Done

We need to be careful and aware of the quality of tuna we are consuming. There are four main common types of tuna which range in quality from low to premium. On the labels of canned tuna you will find dark, light, pink and white.

If you simply look at the price you’ll probably be drawn to the dark tuna because it’s the cheapest. It’s stinky and tastes so fishy it could be easily confused as cat food. When it comes to tuna the age old saying “you get what you pay for” rings true.

You want to look for flaked white albacore tuna in water. Yes, it’s more expensive but I guarantee if you’re used to the cheap dark chunk tuna in oil you will quickly realize how much better this tastes. Don’t get confused with the label ‘light tuna’. This is not the same as white tuna. Something else to look for is the dolphin friendly symbol on the can along with BPA free.

Preparation makes a huge difference too. You may use the plain old recipe of tuna, mayo, celery, salt and pepper. Although this is a classic, there is not much flavor to it at all. In our recipe below you’ll find a taste explosion with dijon mustard, capers and herbs. There is also a nice added crunch with raisins and walnuts.

If you’re still not convinced, consider this- “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done”.

Please Note: Along with Tuna and any other seafood we highly recommend taking  Chlorella tabs with it. Depending on the seafood, hard metals can be a concern. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat seafood at all but we need to protect our bodies and taking your chlorella tabs along with seafood is a great way to do that!
