I don’t know… but it sure feels like it.
Maybe not to everyone, but it does to me.
This is going to be a longer one, likely more personal, so if you’re up for it, grab your liquid mag, or collagen and coffee, and settle in.
I recently watched a video from a coach I had a few years ago — someone who changed our business in a big way. He’s ending the program I took, something he’s been doing for 8 years, because he feels called to follow another path.
He’s looking to create something not just about money, but about meaning and purpose, with a very specific group of people in mind.
There’s another coach/mentor/leader I follow who’s the exact same way — very intentional with the people he wants to work with and attract. He’s more what I’d call green, and aligns more with how I see the world.
On a more personal note… we decided to take a long road trip as a family. I haven’t really shared why, but the truth is, we felt right in the middle of chaos.
Political anger everywhere… people genuinely worried for their families… struggling to pay bills or feed themselves. So many in a constant state of stress, worry and fear.
It felt like everywhere we turned, someone was angry, frustrated, or complaining. And we noticed ourselves slowly getting pulled in that direction too. Thankfully, we caught it before going so far that we wouldn’t recognize ourselves anymore.
So we packed up, hit the road, let go of our place, got rid of tons of stuff, kept only the personal things that mattered, and filled the car with the basics.
I wouldn’t say we were running, and I wouldn’t say we were searching.
But I would say we found something.
And it feels like magic.
Over the last couple of years we’ve been growing at what felt like an alarming rate (at least to us). The excitement, the rush, the ego, even the finances — it was all a blaze of glory.
But if I’m being real, ego took over more than anything.
I wanted more…
More clients.
More inventory.
More products.
More employees.
A bigger warehouse… and then a bigger one after that.
It never ends when you’re in that cycle where ego is driving.
And I was stressed. Irritable.
Chasing growth instead of sustainability.
High highs. Low lows.
And the craziest part?
The more I chased “freedom,” the more trapped I felt.
Then we hit the road.
Hours and hours driving together.
Hotels, Airbnbs, new places, new views.
No electronics.
Just books, coloring, and conversation.
And through all of it, clarity showed up.
Purpose.
And maybe I’m just realizing it now as I write this, but it’s been there the whole time.
Maybe I was chasing someone else’s dream.
Maybe I was chasing what I thought I should have.
Maybe I cared too much about what others would see as “successful.”
But if I look deep… I’m not sure I want any of that.
What I want is a business that supports our family.
A business that lets us live the life we choose.
A business that lets us spend as much family time together as possible.
That’s probably not a huge team I have to manage.
Probably not a giant warehouse with crushing overhead.
And probably not so many clients that I can’t keep up.
Maybe that’s why I’ve been writing more personally and sharing more about myself than I usually do — because I want to be clear about the people I want in my life, the people I want to work with, and the community I’d like to build and be a part of.
- I want to work with people who choose gratitude over entitlement.
- People who want to become better humans — not just lose weight.
- People who want to raise money for the unfortunate because it gives their life meaning too.
- People who aren’t afraid of hard work and don’t ghost at the first sign of discomfort.
- People who respond to DMs because that’s just common courtesy.
- And those who want a more natural approach to life so I’m not debating holistic views vs. what your doctor says you “should” be doing.
So I do feel like this is the end.
And I know people fear change, but most of the time, I welcome it.
It excites me.
I’m not a huge fan of the dramatic:
“THE DOORS ARE CLOSING!”
because usually change comes from a bunch of small shifts that most won’t even notice.
But change is coming.
That I’m sure of.
Less stuff.
We’re on a huge simplicity kick in our personal lives, which has to trickle into our business life, since both are so close to us. And that’s brought three words that have immense meaning to me: Clarity. Purpose. Freedom.
What that likely means — at least from what I can see now:
• Shifting our attention to a new space or a new way to build community.
• Less products. Focusing on the ones our people love and the ones that truly make a difference — and stop looking for more.
• Less employees. I used to spend hours a week recruiting and training. That will change.
• Simplifying. Processes, systems, etc.… everything we do will be chopped down to its simplest form. And we’ll create new systems that make our life easier instead of more complicated.
Now I understand — even though it isn’t my intention — that we could grow more quickly organically with purpose, and that’s fine.
But with clarity, we’ll be growing in the direction we want, instead of being pushed in the direction we’re taken. I hope you see the difference.
I’d love for you to come with us, and embark together on a new ride as we shift. This won’t resonate with the masses — in fact I imagine few will understand — but if you’re excited for us and with us, we’re excited for you too.
In the words of the Great Jerry Maguire…
Who’s coming with me?!
