Breaking Out of Comfort Zones for Growth and Progress

We’re recently going through some bigger changes in business and in life. And although it’s all exciting it’s also completely terrifying. Maybe you’ve heard the quote, ‘if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you’?

I think on some level we’re all looking for change, or at the very least progress, which is a form of change. Truthfully though, some people will never change. They’ll stay in the exact same place, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

But to me, that’s more terrifying than anything. To wake up, in another 10 yrs and be in the exact same situation we’re in….

But the thing is, we don’t have to change. We don’t have to evolve or make different or harder decisions if we don’t want to. We can do the exact same thing we’ve always done. And continue to be in the exact same place.

And I think that’s what happens with our health. Change is scary. So some people choose not to change. They continue to yo-yo diet knowing it doesn’t offer long term results, but that’s all they know and don’t feel like stepping outside their comfort zone to try something different.

Hrs of cardio, yep check it off. Some people have seen results with that 10 yrs ago and it’s safe so try it again. But it doesn’t offer any real change. So you’re safe in your comfort zone.

But to try something different, to hire a coach, well that’s WAY different than anything you’ve tried in the past, so maybe that’s too much. ‘ And what if they tell me to do something I don’t want to do’.

Or try a resistance training program, very different from jumping on a treadmill and challenges you in different ways.

Or picture, actually eating MORE food so you can increase your metabolism and put your body in a fat burning stage, INSTEAD of starving yourself, putting your body in survival mode which means it holds on to every single cell of body fat you have.

Sometimes when these challenging decisions become too much, I take a step back and think, we don’t HAVE to do this. We don’t have to make changes in our life. We can continue to do the same things we’ve always done. Which means we’ll continue to get the same results and never evolve.

And at least for me, that thought is all I need to make a different decision, focus on the exciting, instead of the scary unknown. I hope that might offer you a different perspective the next time you have an opportunity to make a change, but deny the opportunity and say, ‘I think I’ll try on my own a little bit longer’ knowing that hasn’t brought you success in the past and won’t in the future. But at least it’s safe…..
