When I write I try to share not only in my perspective but (as difficult as it is at times) from the other side, from someone in your position reading. In this case I was watching this video, thinking about it from the perspective of someone that may have never tried slacklining or maybe from someone’s perspective that have seen videos of professionals (or possibly is a professional).
From that perspective this video doesn’t look like much, but the truth is Slacklining is one of the hardest things I’ve physically done. I’ve watched people in person, in video, I’ve even seen all kind of crazy tricks and more.
So when I first got on (or tried to get on I had no idea what I was in for). It wasn’t that long ago I couldn’t take a single step. In fact, I couldn’t even stand on the line with out assistance from a helping hand or the balance of a tree.
It literally took me weeks to take 3 steps and longer to be able to step 5 times on the line without help.
This is just a small story of finding success in whatever it is you do. I’ve certainly have a lot of work to do but from when I first started, this is a big accomplishment at least for me.
A few life lessons I took away from this:
– The things we want in life rarely come when we think we’re ready
– If you’re willing to persist, you can accomplish difficult goals (no matter how difficult at first)
– And lastly, no matter what believe in yourself and never, ever, give up. Ever.
When I first started slacklining, I never planned on writing anything about slacklining success for beginners but you never know where life will take you until you try. More of what I learned as I talked about Lessons of a Slackline here.
