Prep Time:

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Steak (4 oz): 1 small steak (sirloin, ribeye, or your preferred cut)
  • Wild Rice: Β½ cup (dry)
  • Green Beans: 1 cup (fresh or frozen)
  • Olive Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic: 1 clove, minced
  • Butter: 1 tablespoon
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste
  • Lemon: Β½ lemon, optional for garnish

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Medium saucepan with lid
  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Tongs
  • Measuring cups
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Spatula
  • Colander or slotted spoon

Instructions:

1. Cook the Wild Rice

  1. Rinse the wild rice under cold water.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 Β½ cups of water to a boil.
  3. Add the wild rice and a pinch of salt.
  4. Reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  5. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

2. Prepare the Green Beans

  1. While the rice is cooking, prepare the green beans.
  2. If using fresh green beans, trim the ends. If using frozen, simply measure out 1 cup.
  3. Bring a small pot of water to a boil, add the green beans, and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender-crisp.
  4. Drain and set aside.

3. Cook the Steak

  1. Pat the steak dry with a paper towel. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  3. Once the oil is hot, place the steak in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare (adjust the time depending on your preferred doneness).
  4. Add the butter and minced garlic to the skillet during the last minute of cooking. Spoon the melted butter over the steak as it finishes cooking.
  5. Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

4. Assemble the Plate

  1. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.
  2. Serve the steak alongside the wild rice and green beans.
  3. Optionally, squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the green beans for extra flavor.

Final Tips:

  • For added flavor, you can marinate the steak in your favorite marinade for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Wild rice can also be cooked in chicken or vegetable broth for extra richness.
