So my tomato plant didn’t make it, the one that I posted a picture of a week or so ago.  It’s not a big deal, there wasn’t a good chance it was going to make it anyways.  Not long after I bought some seeds (herbs) and a couple baby tomato plants to try again.  This morning I went outside to water them and my walking friends seemed to have thought they were a new toy. My biggest plant was torn out of the pot and tossed aside, one of my herb pots was upside down and there was dirt all over the place.  Frustrating to say the least.  It’s only a plant but the time and energy put in, as in anything you do, can’t be replaced.  I gave the dogs a firm talking to, where they proceeded to wag their tails waiting for a walk.  It was hard to be mad, they didn’t even know they did anything wrong.  When I first put the plants out there they showed a little interest.  I told them to leave the pots alone and they did.  It seems curiosity or their memory got the best of them (and my plants).  To make matters worse, I left the pots on the ground after I picked them up and replanted the one, only to come back a few minutes later to see the bigger one right back in them.  I had to laugh that time, not putting them on the table (where I usually keep them) wasn’t the brightest thing for me to do, or not do.

I was slightly agitated and didn’t want my day to be ruined by an unplanned event to happen first thing in the morning, so I grabbed my bat and baseballs and headed to the field.  That always seems to make me feel better.  I pulled up to the field to a full parking lot and hundreds of kids and parents that covered all the fields at our sports complex.  Apparently we are hosting the little league all star games.  Not to be deterred I went to the club house and grabbed a tee (I hit off) and went to another field close to ours.  Once again that field was filled with a family event.

A lesson I can share or that I’ve learnt from past experiences is that I had a choice.  We all have a choice.  I could think ‘why me’ or my whole day is ruined.  Or I could take the high road.  Worse things could have happened.  My plants will probably bounce back and now I know where not to put them.   I’ll go to the field tonight when the games are over so I can still get some work in.

When life throws you a curve ball I hope you are able to take the high road and find the lesson within.
