It bugs me a little bit when people talk about how expensive food is. I talk about choices all the time, course we all have choices no matter what we believe, we all have options. In this case we can choose to be resourceful and find a way to eat healthier, pinch pennies somewhere else, feel and live better, whole, healthier lives or we can chose to pay a much greater price in health later in our lives.

I just made a shake I thought I’d share.

First I started out planning to make one of my favorites.  Cinnamon, apple, banana, water, ice…that’s it.  Love this shake and have it often.

I have a problem with conventional….well everything but in the case recipes and cookbooks.  It always seems like you have to go buy special ingredients to make a certain something.  Why can’t we make something simple that tastes good with ingredients we have in our house.

All that being said I understand maybe the average person doesn’t have all the ingredients I’m going to share with you, which is why I listed one of my favorite basic shakes.  I could only guess the average person would have an apple, banana and cinnamon stick in their house.

On to my shake.  Sometimes I get carried away with ingredients, blend everything in sight and it tastes like it.  Sometimes I end up choking it down (in this case it’s best not to share) but in other situations like today, it was actually very good (I’m enjoying my creation as we speak).

So once again I started off with an apple, banana, and cinnamon….then I remember I have a few other things I’ve been meaning to try.  I’ll list them below:

Dates (2)

A few Gogi berries (a super food I’d like to get into more although if you look at the price you understand why I chose ‘a few’ for now)

handful of spinach

and a couple strips of Dulse (Seaweed)

The biggest argument I get when talking about healthy food is the price.  Everyone believes it costs too much, and I could agree with that to an extent….if you don’t know where to shop.  As for myself, I got through college on a limited budget (And student loans) eating healthy by shopping around.  None of that is much different except that now I’m more resourceful.  Both the apples and banana came off the 50% off rack at the local grocery store.

The great thing about it is….the choice is yours!
