We don’t like to stand against the crowd do we?  We don’t like change much, we don’t want to swim upstream…much too hard.  Who wants a target on their back?  Life is much easier going through the motions, following along.  Our society, this world and all the troubles we have or have done to it ie. pollution, obesity rate and prescribed drugs on the rise, are all our choices.

Then of course we condemn those that make their voices heard, those that care.  We even have special names for them like ‘greenies’, activists, outspoken, even rabble rousers.

Charlie Chaplin, at the time was the most famous comedian (one of the most famous people in fact) of his time, who stood up against the most negative entity this world has ever seen, being Hitler and the Nazi party.  Before the West decided to join the war and fight against fascism, before any other spoke out at this madness a COMEDIAN that’s right (comedian) made his voice heard literally when he spoke for the first time on screen.  He believed his motion picture (the Great Dictator), but more importantly his VOICE could help end the war.

In an incredible satire, Charlie expresses his opinion on how ridiculous Hitler and this was war.  I’ve watched this speech several times and I don’t have words for it.  I figure if someone doesn’t speak much, when they do it’s important.  Goose bumps is what it gives me each time I watch.

What saddens me about the world live in, nothing will change unless we let our be voices be heard.  The chances of that with the ridicule that comes with going against the grain….slim.  For now, I’ll take those who choose to speak, those who make their voices heard; and because words that might make a few people unhappy are so scarce, I’ll enjoy this all the more.
