I got to vent a little bit here.  All in which I’m sure about 97% of you will disagree with, but I suppose with most things I think or talk about isn’t exactly the norm.

It’s pictures, kids pictures in particular.  I can’t figure out why parents think it’s O.K. to post their children all over the internet.  I get it you’re proud, great!  But what about your kids, are you thinking about them or yourself?  Do we think our kids actually want to be all over the place?  All you have to do is pull up a ‘proud’ parents Facebook page and you’ll see exactly who their children are.  What ever happened to privacy?  What about our children?  Once again, I get it, we’re proud; but then again I don’t get it.  We put our children first right?  NO, we choose to plaster our children all over the place without their consent.  Half of them are too young to even know any better.  But what happens when those children grow up, what happens when they’re adults and everyone can see their whole childhood right in front of their eyes.  All you have to do is google someone now and a picture pops up.  Why is that?  Because of US.  So what will we say when a child is grown and says, I wish you wouldn’t have done that mom/dad.  I wish I could live a private life, I wish everyone didn’t know everything about me.  What will we say?  Sorry.  Is that acceptable.  We are taking choices out of our children’s hands instead of giving them more options, more choices.

We’re suppose to be responsible adults aren’t we.  We certainly don’t act like it.  In no way am I implying that maturity or responsibility comes with age, in fact in most cases I’d say it’s the opposite.  We don’t get any more responsible, all we get is more responsibilities.  Which sounds like the same word but it’s completely different.

I run into more immature adults than children.  That’s a fact, that’s not even an embellishment.  You run into a child that knows right from wrong, they know what they’re supposed to do and not.  Of course they’re children but I’d say more times than not they make the right decision.  But us as adults, I wouldn’t be so confident is saying the same thing.  We try to get around the truth, we manipulate, turn things around and make up our own truths.

I know we live in the technology age and most of this stuff is new to us, but what’s going to happen in 10 or 20 years?  Technology is only going to progress, and there we sit with all these new tools and toys but will responsibility increase.  Simple answer that any 2 yr old would know.  NO, it won’t.

So we’ll continue to post pics of ourselves and our children but not for them, for us; because we’re proud and we want the world so see what we have.  So I ask, are we doing this for them or for ourselves?  I have a simple answer for that also.
