Slightly frustrating. I wrote a blog and lost it before it was posted so let’s try it again.
It’s been a long road, the last few weeks of playoffs may not seem like it but the 6 month season leading up to it sure was. No one would have guessed how it would play out. We ended up having to win the last few games of the season to clinch the last playoffs spot. We did. I won’t try to explain how the final tournament works here but I will explain what happened. 6 playoff games won, 3 elimination games, all on the road leads to a chance at winning everything.
The final game of the semi finals went something like this. We jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 in the first inning, then 1 more run in the second. This was to be a pitching duel because no one scored again until the 8th inning. We wouldn’t score again for the rest of the game but they would. The only time it got interesting was the bottom of the 8th inning. Our pitcher that previously pitched a 1 hitter had another great performance. He took us to the 8th without letting a run cross the plate. Our new pitcher thought he would make the game interesting. The other team ended up with the bases loaded, then we walked in a run. Score 4-1, bottom of the 8th, 2 out. They bring their best hitter to the plate (and winning run) who hit a homerun the game before. After a long battle and a 2-2 count, he popped up to me in center field. That out ended the threat and the season for Toowomba. They failed to get any runners on base in the last inning.
I thought it was fitting, their captain and best hitter said, ‘good luck road warriors’. We have knocked out 2 of the 4 playoff teams, all on their home fields and all in elimination games. Off to the championship we go. Then there were 2….
