I don’t know why all of a sudden it feels like you never get the truth anymore. It feels like everyone embellishes or completely missed the truth all together. How do you trust anyone? How do you believe what people say, and how could you expect something to happen if someone says it will? It doesn’t matter if it’s a big lie or slightly off or bigger than reality. If it’s not true, it’s not true. I can’t say I’ve always told the truth but I certainly try.
Then you have the person that does tell the truth and they’re the loud obnoxious one, the out spoken one or trouble maker. When I say ‘truth’ I don’t mean, telling a kid they were adopted when their parents have done so. I don’t mean telling someone something about themselves that’s not warranted, and I don’t mean being plain rude or disrespectful.
When did our society become so disorientated the truth isn’t expected. Have you ever told someone the truth and they were taken back, like they were expecting a lie? What happened to the good old days when you’re word was your bond. People lived and died on what they said and their good name for ‘their word you can trust’. Maybe I’m a little different. When I say something I mean it so I kind of expect others to mean what they say when something comes out of their mouth.
I wouldn’t say there is one particular moment that had me thinking about this, nothing really made me upset although it may seem like it in this blog. It’s more so when one person says something, then another, then the next…you start to wonder.
Maya Angelou quoted her mother in a recent book I read, which is one of my new favorite quotes.
“I’ve never feared anyone enough to lie to them“
