It seemed like just yesterday Rozina sat in our house for our annual Christmas party, it seems like each fitness class she’ll show up eloquently 15 mins late like no one else could. I haven’t written about her ‘passing’ yet and I don’t think I’m quite ready.
What I will say is, some might say RIP Rozina, I’d say she’s causing more trouble now than she ever did. Some might say ‘we lost so much’, I’d say we gained more; some might say ‘I miss you’, I’d say, you’re around more now than ever.
Dorothy decided to put together a Running for Rozina Campaign as she works toward running a half marathon to raise money for what they both love so much, more particularly for Rozina’s love of art and kids. I’ll let her take it from here.
Rozina meant the world to me. She had the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met. Her laugh and trickster attitude kept me laughing and on my toes. She was adventurous, kind and generous. All these qualities shined through during her teaching career. She loved art and instilled the importance of art to her students, family and friends.
She was like a sister to me. From the first time I met her I knew that we had a bond that was going to last a lifetime. One thing that we enjoyed doing together was running. Upon her passing I gave up running for a few months but now it’s time to get back at it and even though Rozina may be gone physically I still feel her running right beside.
Since Rozina had such strong passion for both kids and art I decided to raise funds in her honour for the Therapeutic Art Program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. This program helps boosts kids spirits throughout their stay at the hospital.
From art and music therapy to pet visitations, fishtanks and playrooms this program helps make the hospital a truly special and caring place for kids. The program aims to create happy, healthy memories for kids, their siblings and parents while relieving the fear and anxiety often associated with being in the hospital.
On September 11th, 2016 I will be running the Canmore Half Marathon to raise money for The Alberta’s Children’s Hospital in honour of my good friend Rozina Ahmad who left us suddenly last Christmas.
Thank-you so much for listening to my story. I would very much appreciate your help to achieve the goal I set in honor of our very good friend.
